At last I can see some real progress on the ropeway stations project. I assembled almost all parts for each station using aluminium L profile and m3 screw as designed. It took alot of time because I had to cut and drill all holes manualy with great care for each piece to align.
Now comes the fun part, glueing each wheel asembly, mounting the center ballbearings and the final paint job but I can't wait to see the wheels turning . As I said before, the wheels are not as the ones in the drawings because they are the low cost version, the next one will be made from metal.

Finally the project is almost done but the best part is that it's working !!
I couldn't wait until the wheels we're painted red and yellow and I made the first test to see how the cable tracks over the wheels, if it slips on the motor wheel and how much tension do I need to have to avoid sagging. It's quite hard to have perfect tension when you do not have the stations mounted firmly but with the help of some weights it works, and it works perfect with only one cable turn over the motor wheel.

Here are some pictures from the last days when I finished the wheels, it took a lot of work to sand paper each wheel to 4mm thickness for the ball bearing to fit perfectly. I aplied a layer of primer then left for one day to dry. Another sanding was done to remove imperfections then the ball bearings were glued on the hub using CA glue. The wheel pieces were glued using PVA glue then using M2 screws I fixed them in place until they dried over night. For the groove to have a round profile and a higher strength I put CA inside using a needle then sand paper to remove the excess. Last step is to sand paper with a finer grain then the final paint.

Matteo Ruaz Thank you ! Momentarily I adjust the speed manualy using a DC power supply. The plan is to controll it with arduino, slow start from zero to a preset travelling speed, then again slow stop when both cabins aproach the stations, after a few minutes it repeats this using a timer. I have to search for a code for Arduino.

            Michele L Thank you !

I have finished the wheels, painted them yellow and red. Now I wait for it to cure them mount each one of them in place.
Before I find an arduino code for the project I'll try and play with an RC controller and a car ESC.

                Your work is astonishing!
Have you considered the possibility of eventually adding a pole to the line?
Btw, if you use an RTC module (they cost about 3-5€) with your Arduino you can tell it to automatically move the ropeway at each hour like a cuckoo clock.

Job done, it works, now I'll continue with improving the design as it is very rough now.
I'll make some changes in the drawings on the weight system for the tractor cable because the design does not work as I fully expected. I allready changed it on the fly and it looks good.

FuniCampo57 I used steel wire ropes, 1,5mm for the track rope and 0.8mm for the haul rope. The 0.8mm I bought it from AliExpress but I found that you can buy it from your local fishing stores.

Here are some detailed pictures of the system. As you can see I made some changes from the video for the counterweights, I only left one weight for one guide wheel and it works better. Now I'm redesigning the side plates to mount the wheels using aluminium U profiles for better rigidity. The wheels positions I will keep because I like how they look when turning. The MDF is not that good, even for the prototype, because it's very soft and it tends to bend on the inside because of the weights for the track cable, this is solvable by mounting a M3 screw rod into the track cable wheels hub, but for the final version it won't be a problem because as I said in my earlier posts the plates will be made from metal or carbon fiber. The controll for the cabins is made manual by using a lab power supply wich gives me nice constant power from 0 up to 24V.

By the way, does any one of you know how to code an Arduino to have this work in auto mode, or is there any eletronic harware ready to mount on my ropeway ? I do not like coding and I also do not have time to learn it so if anyone can help I will appreciate very much. If I have to pay just PM me. Thank you !

I'd gladly help, but can you be a little more precise? What would you like to automate and how would you like to do it?

I think that the first task to automate the movements could be having a way to automatically estimate the positions of the cabins on the track. There are many ways to do this, but I think the easiest way is to count the rotations of the main wheel for the tractor rope.

Furthermore we could use some very cheap hardware to have a "line termination" switch.
                          Something like this could work!

I have been working on other stuff but I managed to upgrade some things on my model ropeway and made the station buffers functional. I'm thinking on refining the design because of some small things that I did not like when I assembled them and also I'm considering to mount two IR sensor for the Arduino on the buffers.
Here is a short video of the buffers.

                                  Really Nice Craft !!!

I also don't have much time to learn how to program Arduino, therefore for some simple project I prefer to use a very easy
programmable PLC called LOGO! by Siemens.

Basically you have 8 inputs and 4 outputs (but there are bigger versions you may also consider) and you can take each input and decide the following chain of operation when this input it is triggered: like first timer for initial (low) speed then activate max speed, then when an external signal trigger another input, will stop high speed out (lowering speed) until next signal (like a proximity reed switch with magnet) will stop the cycle.

You can add all the LOGIC BLOC you need with the usual "IF condition THEN reaction becomes" with typical AND, OR, NAND NOR gates

The system is programmable by display and buttons but of course i suggest its cable connector to PC as for beginners it becomes a graphical "drag and drop" design and you can of course run easy simulation of overall before connecting the cables to your cable lift.

The system is furthermore expandable with an "analogic input/output"module in case you prefer to operate the lift with a cheap speed controller circuit to make automatic acceleration and deceleration program as well as you can purchase a bigger LCD screen to make it even more PRO

Here some video i found in Youtube explaining some basic idea

                                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tih59dOz_sk

                                  https://youtu.be/0H7tB46DuFA

The basic 24 volt version costs about 120€ and it is a PLC like those used in real Cable Lifts

Meanwhile I have been working on the Ceretti & Tanfani chariot for the Busteni-Babele model ropeway an here is my current result.
The 1:32 model is optimised for MultiJet Fusion PA12 prints from HP because I like how it gets printed, solid material, sharp edges, you can't scratch it with the nail and doesn't brake even if it stood 24 hours submerged in water, then put into the freezer for half a day then thrown all around the floor.
All edgdes have the minimum thickness required for MJF P12, wich is 0,5mm like the ridges for the wheels suport arms.
If anyone is interested in printing the model please message me.

I have finished the 3D for the Busteni Babele ropeway with its specific chariot and cable drums. The drums are designed to take in the 0,8mm steel cable then twisting it will adjust the length of the tractor cables from the stations. The drums will be secured with a M2 screw and nut that can fit inside it blocking the nut to unscrew itself. The guidance is made by the 8 pins that fit under the drums, basically you lift the drum up, turn it clockwise to adjust lenght then press it down inside the pins then secure it with a screw.
I'm very eager to send it to the printer

RICK I have pulled the trigger for the main part of the chariot and the cable drums
Two main parts, mirrored for each direction and four cable drums printed at Sculpteo on Multijet Fusion from HP on PA12 material, 77,52 Euros.
I cannot wait to see how it looks because I added some more fine details like bolts for the end caps. After this I will send the rest of the chariot parts.

Finally, the 3D parts arrived, I did the entire chariot and what can I say, it looks very good, even the small bolts for the end caps are visible.
Here are some preview shots, the rest after I finish the assembly

Major update on the ropeway project. I replaced all the main parts that were made from MDF to ones made from polycarbonate compact and aluminium profiles for better rigidity. I redesigned the counterweights for the track and traction cables, the one for the tractor cable has a vertical rail to slide up and down also made from aluminium profiles.
The 3D printed Ceretti & Tanfani on Multi Jet Fusion from HP chariot is working very good and is very quiet. I like how the cable now is fixed on the drums with a much cleaner look. The downside of this design is when you have to roll the cable arround the drums if it is not streched it will unfold and then you have to start again, but I prefer the real looks although it takes a lot of time. Next step is to sand some more each parts of the chariot then I will paint it red like the real one with a bit of weathering.
I can't wait to print the supporting arm and the rest of the cabin

                                                                Danrab RICK Thank you !

The sound that you hear is the motor buzzing from the PWM controller. I used for these videos a custom train controller that I build with my father with a more traditional look to it.

Now I want to change the motor mount because I did not give any attention to that when designing the stations and it hase some wobble, nothing fancy only a CNC machined plate that fixes it into place. I also have to replace all the washers that I put on the guide wheels and all the screws to be the same length with coned shaped washers, thank God for AliExpress ).

After this version of the project I have allready started the next one, the outside version, less screws, less parts to cut and manufacture, more rigid, shorter cables inside the station by shortening the distances between the guide wheels and also remove one guide wheel from the tensioning station and the big motor wheel that jerks when it starts. The traction will be the traditional way, one loop on the motor wheel that will be the same size as the rest. Another thing is the my M3 ballbearings have a play inside and the cable the exits the stations give the cabins a slight movement on the chariot / arm pivot axis only at constat slow speeds. I will go for bigger ballbearings with M5 screws.
Anyway, I like the improvement from the MDF version, it is a much rigid system and the tensioning needed is less with almost 300 grams for the tractor cable !!!!!
